ZERMATT, Switzerland — Historically neutral Switzerland symbolically showed its support for the U.S. in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic by projecting an image of the American flag onto the side of the iconic Matterhorn portion of the Swiss Alps.
“Our thoughts are with all American people at this unprecedented time,” Swiss tourist officials said on social media. “We look forward to meeting again at the foot of the Matterhorn, we are all in this together.”
This is not the first time the side of the mountain has been used as a backdrop. It’s part of a series of projections by artist Gerry Hofstetter, Fox News reported.

Last month the word “#hope” was projected on it. Other images include flags from other countries hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak.
#Switzerland is sending messages of #hope by lightning up its most iconic mountain, the #Matterhorn. On April 15 from 6-7:30pm EST the American flag will be projected onto the mountain to convey our solidarity to the American people.
