U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents seized nearly 2 tons of marijuana Monday at the Peace Bridge, near the United States’ border with Canada.
The 3,836 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $8 million, were found inside a commercial shipment of supposed lighting materials, The Buffalo News reported.
“These CBP officers have remained vigilant and engaged as travel restrictions at the border continue. They have never let their guard down, and their discovery of another large marijuana seizure exemplifies their dedication to the CBP mission.” Port Director Jennifer De La O said in a news release.
Since October 2019, more than 1,500 narcotic seizures totaling more than 27,000 pounds have been executed at ports within the Buffalo Field Office, The Buffalo News reported.
The field office covers 16 ports of entry throughout New York state, the newspaper reported.
