Daytona 500 rescheduled to Monday due to weather

DAYTONA, Fla. — “The Great American Race” has been rescheduled to Monday due to weather.

Drivers had prepared to start their engines for the 62nd annual Daytona 500 on Sunday, but weather delayed the race and forced officials to reschedule it.

The race will begin at 4 p.m. Monday, according to officials with the Daytona International Speedway.

The Daytona 500 is a 500-mile NASCAR Cup Series season opener, according to NASCAR.

The race is held at Daytona International Speedway, which is 2.5 miles long and requires 200 laps to complete, NASCAR officials said.

The race is “considered the most prestigious and important race in NASCAR," according to the organization's website.

The Daytona 500 has opened the NASCAR season every February since 1982.

This year, President Donald Trump made a special visit to the race, arriving at the Daytona International Airport just after 1 p.m. Sunday. The president is the grand marshal at this year’s race.
