Dog stolen from Kentucky owner found three years later in Michigan

CASSOPOLIS, Mich. — A dog stolen from her Kentucky owner three years ago was reunited after being found in southwest Michigan.

Venes Mosier’s home was broken into before Christmas in 2017. Thieves stole everything from her, including three dogs.

“They pretty much wiped me out, literally. I came home to a sofa and a few kitchen items,” she told WOOD.

One dog is still missing. Another was found in Illinois a year later.

Mosier, 56, thought she would never see Callie again, until she got a call last month from Cass County Animal Control officers, who had picked up a stray dog that turned out to be Callie, the Cassopolis Vigilant reported.

“I was bouncing off the walls. I was in tears. I was excited,” Mosier told WOOD.

Animal control officers were not sure how Callie got to Michigan, but they were happy to reunite her with Mosier.

“She was in great condition, and obviously somebody had been taking care of her,” Ronald Butts, director of the animal control department, told WOOD. “I have been in the department for over 25 years now. This is a first.”

Mosier was not able to pick up Callie. However, the animal control agency was able to find a volunteer group that transported Callie to Mosier.

“Chipping is so important,” Mosier told the Vigilant. “It’s really not that expensive, and to get (Callie) back and have her recognize me after all that time, I’d gladly pay that money again.”

Callie is adjusting to being back home after three years.

“She is certainly happy to be home, and I’m so happy,” Mosier told the Vigilant.
