Eric Yellin, assistant director on ‘Jack Reacher,’ dead at 55

Eric Yellin, an assistant director who worked on “Jack Reacher,” “The Squid and the Whale” and “In the Bedroom,” died Jan. 10, his wife said. He was 55.

Yellin died at his home in Newport Beach, California, his wife, producer Rosadel Varela, told The Hollywood Reporter.

In addition to films, Yellin also worked in television as an assistant director on “Law & Order,” “Sneaky Pete,” “Damages,” “Royal Pains,” “The Following” and “Person of Interest.”

Yellin was born in Encino, California, and was raised in Newport Beach, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He attended the Dunn School in Los Olivos, California, before earning his bachelor’s degree from Boston University in 1988, the website reported.

After moving to New York, Yellin began his career as a production assistant. He worked on the film, “Fallen Champ: The Untold Story of Mike Tyson” in 1993, and two years later worked on “Die Hard With a Vengeance.”

Yelling was a second assistant director on films such as “Drunks” (1999), “Shaft” (2000), “Almost Famous” (2000) and “Sweet Home Alabama” (2002), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

An outdoor service was held Saturday in Newport Beach, the website reported.
