HOUSTON — A gunman opened fire Sunday morning outside a Houston nightclub, killing a woman and injuring three Harris County Sheriff’s deputies, officials said.
“I don’t know what led him to shoot into a crowd where police officers and other citizens were, but we’ll find out,” Houston police Executive Assistant Chief Troy Finner said.
The deputies were taken to hospitals and are expected to survive.
“I’ve been happy to be able to talk to all families of the deputies involved,” Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said. “Two of them, I’ve talked to directly, and they’re in fairly good spirits. Their families are relieved, scared obviously, but relieved. The other one is undergoing some surgery, but the family felt comfortable that she was in good spirits.”
The identity of the woman who was fatally shot has not been released. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead, KHOU reported. Police said she was an innocent bystander.
The gunman fled the scene and later was found at a hospital where he went for treatment for a gunshot wound. He was taken into custody.
