ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A homeless man managed to sneak into a Florida soccer stadium and lived undetected in a luxury suite for about two weeks, investigators said.
St. Petersburg police said Daniel Albert Neja’s stay at Al Lang Stadium ended Sunday after a cleaning crew found razors, shaving cream and blankets in a luxury suite, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
The area had not been cleaned in some time because it was supposed to be empty. The stadium is home to the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team.
Surveillance video showed Neja, 39, accessed food and merchandise areas, consuming about $250 worth of food and stealing about $1,043 worth of clothing, police said. Video showed him wearing some of the clothes from the team store.
Investigators believe Neja gained access by blending in with a cleaning crew. He had been there since at least July 26.
“It was kind of surprising though, to see that somebody, maybe one or two nights,” Fernandez told WFLA. “But to be able to stay there for that long and have nobody notice it.”
