Hotel evacuated in California after homemade bombs found in room

A man in Orange County, California, was arrested and a hotel was evacuated after law enforcement officials found bomb-making materials in his room.

Orange County sheriff’s deputies were called to the Staybridge Suites Irvine East Lake Forest to investigate a possible domestic violence incident, the sheriff’s department told The Orange County Register, when they noticed suspicious materials in a suspect’s room.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department Bomb Squad entered the suspect’s room and discovered multiple homemade illegal explosive devices, along with illegal explosive substances, according to The Register. As a precaution, law enforcement officials evacuated the three-story hotel.

OCSD Bomb Squad responds to Lake Forest hotel

At 6:20 p.m. on Tuesday, deputies were called to a hotel on Orchard in the city of Lake Forest for a disturbance in a hotel room. Deputies contacted the individuals at the hotel room for a possible domestic violence incident. The OCSD Bomb Squad made entry to the room and discovered multiple homemade illegal explosive devices, along with illegal explosive substances. With the assistance of the Orange County Fire Authority Hazmat Team, the devices and substances were collected and rendered safe. A man in his 30s was detained and will be booked into Orange County Jail for multiple felonies.
