Indiana man awaiting trial in child molestation case accused of rape, sexual battery

ANDERSON, Ind. — An Indiana man awaiting trial on a child molestation charge is accused of rape and sexual battery of a man with Down syndrome, authorities said.

Scott Thomas Delaney, 51, of Yorktown, was arrested Wednesday and charged with Level 1 felony rape and Level 6 sexual battery, The Herald Bulletin of Anderson reported.

According to prosecutors, the 32-year-old victim said Delaney touched him in a sexual manner several times, WXIN reported.

A probable cause affidavit alleges that Delaney was working for a Muncie company, Help at Home, that provided services to the family of the victim, including taking the man to music therapy sessions and bowling, the television station reported.

According to the affidavit, Delaney had been working for the victim for a few weeks. The victim’s father said his son came home upset after the last few times Delaney took him to his sessions, WXIN reported. The victim refused to speak to family members and wanted to be left alone, the affidavit stated.

According to court records, family members said the victim “used to be upbeat and friendly, and now he doesn’t want to talk and is closed off.”

Eventually, the victim told his mother that Delaney had touched him in an inappropriate manner, WXIN reported.

Delaney denied the allegations Wednesday when interviewed by police, the television station. He told police the only time he touched the victim was to help him off the ground when he was acting like he was asleep.

Help at Home did not return a telephone call to The Herald Bulletin seeking comment on Delaney’s employment. However, the probable cause affidavit states Help at Home knew about the investigation and Delaney said during his video court appearance that he is no longer employed.

Delaney was arrested in January in Grant County on a Level 4 felony charge of child molestation of a victim under the age of 14, the newspaper reported. He was released after posting $20,000 bail. His trial was originally scheduled for Aug. 24 but was rescheduled for Jan. 25.
