According to a spokesperson for the New York Road Runners, the man was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, WPIX-TV reported.

“Our thoughts and sympathies are with the runner’s family and those close to them,” spokesperson Trina Singian told WABC.

It was unclear what caused the runner to collapse, the television station reported. He collapsed shortly after 9 a.m. EDT on Ocean Parkway at Brighton Beach Avenue near Coney Island, The New York Times reported.
