Minnesota State Fair offering visitors tasty drive-thru experience

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. — Part of the fun of going to a state fair is the food. The smells and tastes of fair food have few rivals.

Things are different now because of the coronavirus pandemic, but officials with the Minnesota State Fair announced a drive-thru food experience for three weekends in August and September. For $20, up to five patrons in a vehicle can sample cheese curds, Pronto Pups, Sweet Martha’s cookies and other delicacies, WCCO reported.

“There is no true Minnesota State Fair in 2020. Unfortunately, we had to cancel in May, but we knew it was the only decision we could make. So now we are figuring it out,” fair spokesperson Danielle Dullinger told WCCO.

The entry fee for the Minnesota State Fair Food Parade is $20 for the 1.5-mile drive-thru at the fairgrounds. Menu items will be sold separately.

There will be 16 vendors at the Falcon Heights site, and state fair officials are labeling the drive “a parade.”

“Plan for a multi-hour experience, and enjoy entertainment, a trivia contest and activities along the way,” officials said on the fair’s website.

Wednesday’s announcement comes after the 2020 fair was canceled because of coronavirus concerns in May. It was only the sixth time in the fair’s history that the event has been canceled, KARE-TV reported.

The Minnesota State Fair Food Parade runs Thursdays through Sundays, Aug. 20-23, Aug. 27-30, Sept. 3-6, and Labor Day, Sept. 7, according to the fair website.
