Officers with the South Burlington Police Department said in a news release that they were called to the McDonald’s on Sunday afternoon when an employee was creating a disturbance with a handgun.

The employee allegedly removed ammunition from the handgun and threw three live rounds onto the hot grill, causing them to explode, WPTZ reported.

Police told WPTZ that when they arrived, officers set up a perimeter and negotiated with the employee, who was not identified. Officers eventually convinced the man to put down the gun and surrender, and he was taken to a hospital to be evaluated.

Officers evacuated the restaurant, and nobody was injured, WCAX reported.

Police told WPTZ that investigating officers were still working to determine whether charges would be filed.
