‘Promising Young Woman,’ ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm,’ take top honors at 2021 Writers Guild Awards

LOS ANGELES — Two films secured their prominence among 2021 Oscar screenwriter contenders and an Apple+ original dominated TV honors during the 73rd annual Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday.

Hosted by actor and former White House staffer Kal Penn, the virtual presentation saw “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” win best adapted screenplay and “Promising Young Woman” take best original screenplay.

Meanwhile, “Ted Lasso” won both best new series as well as top comedy series.
