Vi-Jon, of Smyrna, Tennessee, expanded its voluntary recall to include all lots of cherry- and grape-flavored Magnesium Citrate Saline Laxative Oral Solution, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration said in a news release. The recall, which came after two more “serious adverse reactions” were reported, occurred less than two weeks after the company recalled its lemon-flavored product.

Magnesium Citrate Saline Laxative Oral Solution is used for the relief of occasional constipation, according to Monthly Prescribing Reference, an online medical website.

The product is packaged in a 10-ounce, clear, round plastic bottle, according to the FDA. It was distributed nationwide to retail outlets, the FDA said.

Vi-Jon reiterated its original statement that third-party testing found contamination by Gluconacetobacter liquefaciens and “Imunocompromised patients who consume this product may be at increased risk for invasive infections,” the FDA said. The infections “could lead to serious, life-threatening adverse health consequences,” the company said.

Stores that sold the grape-flavored product that is being recalled include Best Choice, CVS, H-E-B, Rexall and Walgreens, according to the recall notice. Recalls for the cherry-flavored products include Best Choice, CVS, Equaline, H-E-B, Kroger, Meijer, Publix, Rexall, Rite-Aid and Walgreens outlets.

Vi-Jon is notifying its customers by telephone and email. and is arranging for the return or destruction of all recalled products. Consumers who have the products should stop using them and return them to the point of sale, the FDA said.
