Reports: Colin Kaepernick lands workout with Las Vegas Raiders

Quarterback Colin Kaepernick’s quest to return to the NFL may have received a boost when he landed a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders, several media outlets reported.

Kaepernick, 34, who last played in the NFL in 2016 -- the year he began kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice -- was scheduled to work out Wednesday with the Raiders, according to ESPN.

Kaepernick has recently stepped up his efforts to return to professional football, conducting workouts in several cities, The Washington Post reported. He threw passes during halftime of the University of Michigan’s spring game. The Wolverines are coached by Jim Harbaugh, who was Kaepernick’s coach with the San Francisco 49ers.

The workout with the Raiders marks Kaepernick’s first with an NFL team since he met with the Seattle Seahawks in May 2017, ESPN reported. The Seahawks declined to sign him.

Kaepernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl XLVII after the 2012 season, when San Francisco lost 34-31 to the Baltimore Ravens. The following season, he led the 49ers to the NFC Championship Game, where they lost to the Seattle Seahawks.

Kaepernick played six seasons in the NFL, all with the 49ers, throwing for 12,272 yards and 72 touchdowns during the regular season, according to Pro-Football Reference.com.

Derek Carr is currently the Raiders’ starting quarterback, and Las Vegas also traded with New England to obtain backup Jarrett Stidham earlier this month, ESPN reported.
