Third rescue in as many days after Maine state park reopened

MILLINOCKET, Maine — Officials responded to their third rescue in as many days Friday since a popular park was reopened.

A 31-year-old woman was rescued around 12 p.m. after injuring her leg while hiking the narrow Knife's Edge trail along Mount Katahdin in Baxter State Park, WCSH reported

She was rescued by helicopter then taken by ambulance to a hospital where she was treated for her injuries, WABI reported

With an elevation gain of about 4,000 feet, the trails along Katahdin are a mentally and physically exhaustive hike

The mountain is the highest in Maine and the centerpiece of Baxter State Park, which reopened Wednesday. Park officials are warning visitors to be prepared for the rugged terrain, WCSH reported
