Woman, dog help stop golf club-wielding man on smashing rampage

MARIETTA, Ga. — A woman and her brave dog stopped a man going on a rampage with a golf club.

Pictures show the damage at an apartment complex in Marietta after the man smashed out several car and apartment windows.

That’s when Rachel Konke and her dog named Glen got involved.

“He’s been trained to alert if someone enters my surroundings quickly,” Konke said. “He immediately could tell the person was a threat.”

The two were on their nightly walk Wednesday near their condo on Wynnes Ridge Circle when they heard the sound of glass shattering.

“We both kind of looked up, and he alerted to that,” Konke said.

Konke said an intruder once broke her into her home and she wanted to make sure this person was not trying to hurt anyone.

“I had my fanny pack with a firearm, bear Mace and a Taser in it, but thankfully, I didn’t have to use any of that,” Konke said.

She said Glen sprang into action and started barking at the stranger.

“(The stranger) was just kind of screaming, ‘I don’t like that dog, I don’t like that dog,'” Konke said.

Then, the man dropped the golf clubs he allegedly stole from a patio.

“He stopped breaking into the cars and just ran right up there, and we just kind of stood right over there and made sure he didn’t go any farther,” Konke said.

Police arrived within minutes and arrested Sean Maurice Scott.

Cobb police said Scott shattered five car windows and windows at one home, causing more than $2,000 of damage.

Konke is glad that Glen was enough to end a tense situation.

“He did a really great job. I felt safe the entire time,” Konke said.
