A young bull moose was discovered in the garage at Lionshead Village in Vail on Tuesday morning, KDVR reported. Perhaps the moose, estimated to be 2 or 3 years old by Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials, made a wrong turn while looking for the ski resort’s three-star hotel, Antlers at Vail.

The 750-pound animal may have been confused, but it refused to leave the garage and had to be tranquilized by wildlife officials, KUSA reported. CPW officials relocated the moose to a remote area near Craig, in northern Colorado, by Tuesday afternoon, the television station reported.

“Everything went smoothly this morning. No issues,” CPW Officer Devin Duval told KDVR. “We were definitely within that human health and safety realm where there could potentially be an injury to a human or the animal. That is the reason we decided to move it.”

Wildlife officials said they began receiving calls about the moose roaming through a few neighborhoods last month, KUSA reported. The animal began wandering into the ground level of the ski resort’s parking garages about 10 days ago, the television station reported.

“Largely, most of these neighborhoods coincide with really optimal moose habitat, notwithstanding the fact there are a lot of pedestrians and human activity,” Duval told KDVR. “Moose are not fully concerned with that, they usually are unencumbered by the activity here in Vail.”

Moose are attracted to the de-icing agent used on the garage walls, the television station reported.

“This moose was not electing to spend time elsewhere, but now people can be at ease walking to work through that garage and the moose will be moved to more appropriate habitat,” Duval told KUSA.
