Uniontown man charged with selling heroin that led to fatal overdose

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — A Uniontown man is facing charges for selling heroin that led to the death of a Washington County man, the Washington County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday.

Myron Moore, 31, is charged with drug delivery resulting in death, two counts of delivery of heroin and cocaine, criminal use of a communication facility, two misdemeanor counts of possession of heroin and cocaine and a misdemeanor charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Charges against Moore stem from the February 2015 death of a 35-year-old Robinson Township, Washington County, man, who obtained the heroin that caused his death from Moore at a convenience store in New Salem, Fayette County, police said. Officials identified the man as Justin Halyak.

According to a criminal complaint, Moore was remorseful when he learned of Halyak’s death. He began “shaking uncontrollably and began to cry” and said he “never meant to hurt anyone.”

During the investigation into Moore, police said they set up a controlled buy to purchase heroin from Moore.

Prosecutors said Moore told a drug informant, “Whatever you want, I sell it all. Solid, powder, bags.”

The drug delivery resulting in death charge against Moore is a first-degree felony that carries a prison sentence of up to 40 years.

“This arrest is an important part of our work in eliminating the threat of heroin to our communities. Criminals dealing heroin in Washington County need to know that if we can link you to a death or an overdose, they will be charged and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Washington County District Attorney Eugene Vittone said in a news release.

Agencies involved in the investigation included the Fayette County Drug Task Force, the Fayette County District Attorney's Office, the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Office, Pennsylvania State Police and the Washington County Drug Task Force.
