Washington County woman killed in house fire

MARIANNA, Pa. — A woman was killed Thursday when her home caught fire in Washington County.

Cynthia A. Scott, 59, died in the fire on Barr Run Road in Marianna, Pennsylvania State Police in Washington said.

Firefighters from five departments were called at about 5:30 p.m. to the home.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

"I hurried up and called her.  I wanted her to get out of there," neighbor Mabel Vought said. "She didn’t answer the phone, so I called 911.”

Vought told Channel 11's Steven Fisher that the two were close friends.

"She was an excellent lady," Vought said. She told Fisher it was heartbreaking watching the home burn.

"It was just horrible. It was pouring down rain, and the house it went up so fast it cracked and broke the windows,” Vought said. "I’ve never seen a fire like that."
