TSA launching new campaign in part of effort to stop spread of COVID-19

The TSA is launching its new “Stay Healthy. Stay Secure” campaign just days before what is normally a busy travel weekend for the fourth of July.

The campaign is part of an effort to stop the spread of COVID-19.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • TSA officers will change their gloves after each pat-down and use a fresh swab for each passenger when checking for explosive material.
  • The TSA says passengers should wear face coverings and social distance in checkpoint lines.
  • You may be asked to adjust your mask during the screening process to verify identification or if your mask triggers an alarm.
  • You may also bring one hand sanitizer container, up to 12-ounces per passenger, in your carry-on.
  • To help with social distancing, the agency is planning to open more lanes at security checkpoints. The goal is to keep wait times to nine-minutes or less.

When it comes to temperature check, there’s no decision on that yet.

“From what i know in talking to our medical professionals and the centers for disease control, is that temperature checks are not a guarantee that passengers who don’t have an elevated temperature also don’t have COVID-19,” said TSA administrator David Pekoske.
