MAHONING TOWNSHIP, Pa. — The wreckage, however, wasn’t discovered until hours later when a man mowing his lawn saw the car.
Investigators said the driver was going west on Mowhawk School Road when she went over the hillside.
It’s unclear if the driver survived the fall or died on impact. It took investigators more than two hours, and nearly 80 feet of rope to hoist the car out of the ravine.
A neighbor said he heard a loud crash, but didn’t see anything when he walked outside. It wasn’t until about four hours later when he went outside to cut the grass did he notice the mangled SUV.
“I was thinking maybe if I had went out and looked further I might have saved her because I would have went down there,” the neighbor said.
An autopsy on the victim is scheduled for Wednesday.
