Legendary Pitt Football coach Johnny Majors dies at 85

PITTSBURGH — Legendary University of Pittsburgh head football coach Johnny Majors had died, according to a tweet by Pitt Football. He was 85.

Majors coached the University of Pittsburgh football team from 1973–1976 and from 1993–1996. In 1976, he lead the Panthers to a 12-0 undefeated season and a national championship with a win in the Sugar Bowl.

Majors also the head coach for Iowa State University and Tennessee.

Majors was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1987 as a player. He was inducted into the Pitt

Majors cause of death has not been released.
