MLB owners approve plan to start season around July 4 without fans, players union to vote

PITTSBURGH — The Major League Baseball owners have approved a plan that would have baseball games start up again around July 4, according to sources for the Associated Press.

The next step is for the player’s union to vote on the plan.

Baseball season was canceled shortly before Opening Day, with many teams getting deep into their Spring Training before coronavirus began to spread widely across the United States.

Exact details of the plan have not been released, but the Pittsburgh Pirates were scheduled to host the Boston Red Sox for inter-league play Fourth of July weekend.
