A familiar face will return to the Pirates’ lineup for their final series of the season.
Infielder Jung Ho Kang will be called up Friday and be active for Pittsburgh’s games in Cincinnati this weekend, the team announced Thursday.
Kang, 31, hasn't played a major-league game since 2016. After that season, legal and visa troubles related to several DUI charges led the team to place him on the restricted list, and South Korean courts ruled he could not legally work in the United States.
He was allowed to renew his visa in 2018, and he rejoined the team in April, starting off in Class-A Bradenton. The team took him off the restricted list in June, but he was shelved with a wrist injury a few days later and underwent surgery in August.
He'll wear No. 16, the team said.
