Pirates trade Andrew McCutchen to Giants

PITTSBURGH — Two days after trading the ace of their staff, the Pirates traded away the face of the franchise.

Outfielder Andrew McCutchen is headed west to San Francisco.

The trade, which is pending the results of a physical, was first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

Andrew McCutchen confirmed the trade with a post on Twitter that read, "Pittsburgh. My home. My fans. My city. The place that raised me and helped mold me into the man I am today. You will 4ever be in my heart. A tip of the cap to all who have been on this journey with me. With love and respect, Cutch."

The Pirates will receive right-hander Kyle Crick, minor league outfielder Bryan Reynolds and $500,000 in international signing bonus money. The Pirates also will send $2.5 million to the Giants to cover part of McCutchen's $14.75 million salary.

Crick tweeted, "Well that escalated quickly. Appreciate the @SFGiants and its very large fan base for always staying behind me. Ya'll are awesome."

McCutchen had been the talk of trade rumors before last season but ultimately stayed with the Pirates. He was scheduled to make more than $14 million this year, the final year of his contract.

McCutchen spent his entire career with the Pirates organization, nine of them in Pittsburgh, and has a career batting average of .291.

On Saturday, the Pirates traded former No. 1 pick and top pitcher Gerrit Cole to the Houston Astros.
