Sunday Night Football grill in Pittsburgh helping serve holiday meals despite Steelers postponed game

PITTSBURGH — Despite the Steelers-Ravens rivalry matchup being moved to Sunday afternoon due to COVID-19 issues and a coach not following protocol within the Baltimore organization, the “Sunday Night Football” Grill still made a visit to Pittsburgh on Thanksgiving Day to help those less fortunate.

You can watch all of the action from the Steelers-Ravens game right here on WPXI Channel 11 on Sunday with kickoff set at 1:15 p.m.!

Pittsburgh’s Light of Life Rescue Mission held its annual Thanksgiving banquet, and the grill was there to help serve meals.

“It’s really important for us to continue to serve. We are considered an essential service with the community and we are grateful to be able to have donors and volunteers,” said Jenny Deatrich who volunteers with the mission.

Liam Dolan and his father, Morgan, stepped to help serve meals.

“It’s my birthday today. I’m 10,” said Liam Dolan.

“Doing things like this kind of helps them be thankful for everyday life, not just Thanksgiving,” Morgan Dolan said.

Morgan Dolan is a Steelers fan and said he was bummed the game got moved to Sunday. He said he was glad the SNF Grill showed up, though.

“This is the first time ever the “Sunday Night Football” Grill has been in existence,” said grill tour manager Rick Hewitt.

NBC Sports revamped its fan bus, turning it into the grill as a way to give back and thank communities in cities that host games this season. The grill had a four-day road trip from Baltimore to Pittsburgh with stops in Washington, D.C. and Harrisburg.

While Thursday’s event was a little different than past years, with social distancing and masks, organizers still had the same goal: serve hundreds of warm meals this Thanksgiving to those in need.
