Pittsburgh Penguins jersey auction raises $20,000 to help people impacted by coronavirus

The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation is donating $20,000 to local charities and other community groups working to help those impacted by the coronavirus after auctioning off green St. Patrick’s Day jerseys.

The Penguins were supposed to wear the jerseys in the warm-up during a game earlier this month against the New York Islanders, which was postponed along with the whole NHL season because of the pandemic.

A donation of $5,000 each is being made to:

  • Pittsburgh Community Food Bank
  • Western PA Diaper Bank
  • Rainbow Kitchen
  • Salvation Army carry-out meal program

The Salvation Army donation will allow them to provide 1,700 meals in one week.

The auction also included a selection of St. Patrick’s Day pucks.
