Ones to Watch: Megan Rapinoe, women’s soccer

The U.S. women’s soccer team has a score to settle after getting knocked out early in the 2016 Olympics.

Captain Megan Rapinoe hopes her team will be the first to follow a World Cup win with a gold medal in the Olympics.

Rapinoe also says the COVID-19 delay actually helped Team USA.

“For us, this was a nice silver lining of COVID and the pandemic, just to have a year to rest,” Rapinoe said. “You know some players played a lot, went overseas. Some players like myself took more time for themselves, time that we never really get, to get our bodies right and have that break.”

The U.S. team got ready for the Games by beating Mexico in July, its 44th straight win.

Team USA plays Sweden first in the Tokyo Olympics, the same team that upset them four years ago.
