Ones to Watch: Mikaela Shiffrin

BEIJING, China — Skier Mikaela Shiffrin is one of the biggest names in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics and one you’ll want to watch.

These are Shiffrin’s third Olympic games. She won gold and silver in 2018, and in 2014, when she was only 18, she became the youngest woman to win gold slalom.

Shiffrin revealed one of the keys to her skiing success is music, something she learned from her father.

“My dad used to say music is the only thing that humans can’t live without,” she said. “I listen to music every day in some sense or the other and if I listen to music in races it helps me get into a good mindset or stay in a good mindset.”

Shiffrin started a fund in 2020 in honor of her dad to raise money to help resume sports camps and sports opportunities hampered by the COVID pandemic.
