Simone Biles pulls out of vault and uneven bar event finals at Olympics

TOKYO — Simone Biles will not compete in the event finals for vault and the uneven bar at the Tokyo Olympics.

The United State’s Gymnastics team tweeted the announcement Friday night, saying:

“After further consultation with medical staff, Simone Biles has decided to withdraw from the event finals for vault and the uneven bars.”

This news comes after Biles said she experienced what gymnasts call “the twisties.”

The “twisties” happen to gymnasts when they are in the middle of their routine or even in the middle of a skill. Something causes them to lose awareness of where they are in the skill, and in their relation to the ground.

The team also said that she will continue to be evaluated daily to determine whether to compete in the finals for floor exercise and balance beam.
