Chilly temperatures for Halloween trick-or-treating

Happy Halloween! Temperatures are chilly with many spots below freezing to start the day. Highs will rise near 50 degrees this afternoon. The sky will become sunny and conditions will stay mostly clear through the night. Trick-or-treaters will need the coats along with their spooky costumes with evening temperatures in the 40s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 30s.

Sunday brings big changes to wrap up the weekend. The day will start dry and cool, but a cold front will track through the area and spark showers from the west to the east. Rain is expected to start during the late morning hours. As the cold air flows in behind the front, precipitation will switch to a wintry mix late in the afternoon, the snow during the night.

Most areas should see at least a coating of snow by Monday morning, with areas north and east of Pittsburgh getting to 1-2″. Ground temperatures should be warm enough for much of the snow to melt, but watch for a few icy spots early Monday, along with wind chills in the 20s.
