Soaring into the 90s: Hottest temperatures of year move in Tuesday

PITTSBURGH — The hottest weather of the year so far is here. You’ll need to grab a bottle of water before heading out as the heat and humidity are soaring.

Temperatures in the 90s will only cool into the low 70s overnight so it will be a warm start to Wednesday. The day will also bring a tropical feel as dew points rise to near 70 degrees. Heat index values will climb to the mid-90s across our area.

There’s a chance for a stray thunderstorm or shower overnight into early Wednesday. Another threat for storms will come during the late afternoon, especially in areas to the east in the ridges and mountains. The greater likelihood for storms is after 7 p.m. for the area. Any storm that moves in could be severe with the threats of damaging winds and large hail. The tornado threat is very low, but it is not zero. Areas north and west of Pittsburgh are in a very small risk for one.
