Chance of snow showers early Thursday, especially areas north of city

PITTSBURGH — A few light snow showers could leave slick spots early Thursday, especially north of Butler and along I-80. Snow is less likely around Pittsburgh, but check the forecast before heading out in the morning.

It will be mild again Thursday so dress in layers and enjoy late day sunshine before major weather changes move in Friday.

Pack your umbrella and be ready for on and off rain showers Friday. A period of steady rain is possible after lunch before colder air starts filtering in. That will change the rain to snow showers after sunset on Friday but with temperatures staying above freezing, no widespread travel problems are expected.

A real winter chill settles in Saturday and as colder air moves across Lake Erie, snow showers will develop. Temperatures will struggle to get back near freezing and gusty winds will make it feel more like in the 20s. A coating to 1-inch of snow could make untreated surfaces icy late Saturday and early Sunday with areas north and west of Pittsburgh getting more.
