Cold air returns Friday ahead of possible snowstorm for Pittsburgh region

PITTSBURGH — You’ll want to have the heavier coat back in your arsenal Friday.

Temperatures will stay in the 30s all day, with the wind making it feel a bit cooler at times. We’ll have lots of clouds, but only stray flurries to start the day.

Arctic air will settle in Saturday, capping high temperatures in the 20s and making it feel more like the single digits and teens.

The cold air will be a key factor in a possible Sunday snowmaker that could bring several inches of heavy, wet snow to the area. Snow should break out late in the day Sunday and Sunday evening. Most areas could see completely white ground by Monday morning.

A winter storm watch has been issued for southwestern Pennsylvania, set to be in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday through 1 p.m. Monday.
