Things aren’t always what they seem.
A bird from Pittsburgh’s National Aviary spread its wings on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” Thursday night, but the color of its feathers is in question.
Tyler, a hyacinth macaw, appears to have blue feathers … but, apparently, that’s not the case.
Robert Irwin, son of the late Steve Irwin, explained the phenomenon to Fallon.

“You’ll notice that coloration there, that blue coloration. This bird is actually black, but the way the light reflects off the feathers, it appears blue,” Irwin said.
Fallon joked that it was reminiscent of viral photographs -- like “The dress,” for example -- that have some people seeing one color and others seeing another.
“Is that one of those, like, internet things. Like the black and gold. I see blue and yellow, but you’re saying that bird is black?” Fallon said.
The bird ended its time in the spotlight by soaring into the audience, where Fallon and Irwin were waiting.
Still not convinced of the color, Fallon said, “I’m still saying that she’s blue.”
