11-year-old boy steals cement truck, leads cops on high-speed chase

DODGE COUNTY, Minn. — Sometimes you feel like hoping in a car and going for a ride. However, an 11-year-old boy has been detained after allegedly stealing a cement truck and driving it though Dodge City, Minnesota.

According to the NY Daily News, The Dodge County sheriff's office said they started chasing the boy after he stole the truck while the keys were inside Sunday afternoon.

The boy flew through town, reaching speeds up to 70 mph and hitting both a Minnesota State Patrol car and Kasson Police car. The truck’s front right tire went flat, but the ride didn’t stop there. The boy drove off the highway and went back to the side streets of his hometown.

"I betcha he drove around town 6 or 7 different times," Troy Flatness, who witnessed the chase, told KARE. "He was smiling, hooting and hollering…he was having a good time."

After an hour-long chase, the boy finally pulled over at a dead-end street and tried fleeing from the scene on foot.

“Everybody was out with their cameras,” Flatness said. “It was like a parade, and I had no idea what was going on.”

The boy was arrested and is at a Juvenile Detention Center in Rochester, Minn.

No injuries were reported from the chase.
