16-year-old shot, killed while sitting in car in Aliquippa

ALIQUIPPA, Pa. — A 16-year-old was shot and killed as he sat in the back seat of a car in Aliquippa on Thursday, police said.

Emergency dispatchers said the shooting happened just before 8:30 p.m. in the 1100 Block of Wade Street.

Aliquippa Police Chief Don Couch said the victim, a 13-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man drove to Aliquippa from Beaver County last night. Around 8:20 p.m., a fourth person got into a tan-colored Honda that the others were in and fatally shot the 16-year-old, police said.

Residents told Channel 11 News that at least six shots were fired.

“We also got a call from a resident that a 13-year-old boy was at her door asking for help and saying he believed someone had been shot down the street,” Couch said.

Authorities said the suspected shooter ran off and has not been caught.

Couch said while a motive is still under investigation, nothing warrants taking a life.

"Most of the time - whether it's over drugs or whatever else - it's such an insignificant reason to take someone's life,” the police chief said.

No names for anyone involved in the incident have been released. Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to call Aliquippa police.
