4 people, including 2 juveniles, shot in downtown Pittsburgh after fireworks show

PITTSBURGH — Four people were taken to the hospital after shots were fired in downtown Pittsburgh around 10:30 p.m. Monday.

According to investigators, the victims were located in the vicinity of Seventh Street and Liberty Avenue following the Fourth of July fireworks show.

Channel 11 News has learned that a 15-year-old girl was shot in the leg and taken to Children's Hospital. Her condition was unknown.

A boy was also shot in the leg and taken to the hospital in stable condition. A woman was shot in the head and taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition. A man was in stable condition after being shot in the leg.

The ages of all victims are 21, 15, 18 and 16. All of the victims are in critical or stable condition.

Pittsburgh police were looking for two young men after the shooting. One man who was taken into custody early Tuesday was not charged in connection with the incident.

Police believe the shooting followed an argument between two men near Seventh and Liberty. They do not think the victims were involved in the altercation.

"Most likely, this was a targeted event," said Mayor bill Peduto. "It wasn't a random shooting. I just wish I could get guns out of the hands of kids."

Monday night marked the third violent incident involving teenagers on Liberty Avenue since December. The other two were fights not involving guns.

Peduto said he's visited cities dealing with violence on a much larger level and he is working to make sure Pittsburgh doesn't follow that pattern.
