4 wanted in connection with Chartiers Twp. card skimming scheme

CHARTIERS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Authorities are searching for four people wanted in a card skimming scheme in Chartiers Township.

Police said the foursome placed a device on a gas station card reader or ATM and stole the credit or debit card numbers of two people, which they then used to make fake debit cards that work in store.

“They have their cards at home, and there's other cards out there with their info on it that are being used,” Chartiers Township Police Sgt. Mike Filosi said.%

Filosi said two women used fake cards at a Walmart in Greensburg, buying $1,500 worth of merchandise in the middle of the night.

“The one victim contacted her bank about suspicious activity on her card at 2 a.m. at the Walmart in Greensburg,” he said.

Filosi said in the other case, two men used fake cards at a Walgreens in Moon Township, purchasing $1,200 worth of merchandise before the victim spotted the transactions on his bank statement.

Authorities said they believe there are more victims, and they are working to figure out where the gas stations or ATMs are that both victims used to try to find the skimming device. Police urge anyone who lives in Chartiers Township or shops in the area to check his or hers bank statement.

“Check your statements very frequently, run credit checks on yourself,” Filosi said.
