70-year-old man found critically injured on side of road

Police are searching for answers after a 70-year-old man was found critically injured on the side of an East Pittsburgh road.

The victim, Lou Cagnacci, suffered broken ribs and a brain injury. His family said he is in critical condition fighting for his life.

East Pittsburgh police found Cagnacci laying on the side of the road at the corner of Center and Main streets around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday. His family said he was leaving a friend’s house before the incident happened.

Investigators said they don't know if he was hit by a car, beaten up or injured in some other way. They said he wasn’t robbed.

Cagnacci’s cousin, Tyler Morrow, said Cagnacci is a happy, fun person who walked everywhere.

“I’ve never seen him angry, upset, mean. I’ve never seen him like that. Now he’s up in the hospital trying to survive,” Morrow said. “Lou would do anything for anyone, whether it’s a family member, a friend or stranger.”

Morrow said he hopes the guilty party will be held accountable.

“I’m not sure what happened, all I know is something needs to be done about this,” Morrow said. “We’re just hoping for answers and hope that whoever did this or whatever happened, turn yourself in.”

Cagnacci lives about a block away from where he was found. Anyone with information is asked to call police.
