Allegheny Building closed indefinitely due to code enforcement violations

PITTSBURGH — The doors to the Allegheny Building on Forbes Avenue in downtown Pittsburgh were padlocked Tuesday due to code enforcement violations brought to light by a weekend fire at the neighboring building that formerly housed Macy’s.

At one time, both buildings had the same owner and shared electricity. Channel 11 News has learned that there are numerous code violations that need to be addressed, and the electricity needs to be separated.

On Monday, elevators in the Allegheny Building, which primarily houses law offices, were not operational. Workers were forced to use stairs.

Signs were posted Tuesday at the building, and the doors were padlocked by fire officials. It is closed indefinitely.
