Arrest made in Brentwood double shooting that left man, 26, dead

PITTSBURGH — A man was arrested early Thursday after a double shooting Wednesday night in Brentwood that left one man dead and another hurt, police told Channel 11 News.

Allegheny County emergency dispatchers received reports of shots fired on Bellanca Avenue in Brentwood shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said Taymar Taylor, 26, of Munhall, was found dead inside a vehicle, and Daniel Jones was taken to a hospital with injuries to his lower body.

Police arrested a man overnight whom they found hiding in some woods near the shooting scene.

Investigators confirmed that Daevon Plowden was charged in connection with the case. Plowden told police that his girlfriend had a restraining order against Jones, and that he shot Jones after a confrontation at the woman's house.%

Police said Taylor drove Jones to the home. Plowden told police that he shot several times in the direction of Jones, who ran down the street.

Taylor was still in his Hyundai when the shots were fired, and he was hit several times, according to authorities.

Taylor's family told Channel 11's Jennifer Tomazic that he was a Lyft driver who knew Jones. He was not driving for Lyft, however, at the time of the shooting.

The company confirmed to Channel 11 that Taylor was not on the clock at the time of the shooting, and released the following statement:

"The Lyft community is saddened to hear about this tragedy. Our deepest condolences and support go out to the family and friends of Taymar Taylor."

Taylor’s family is adamant that their son was not a target but an innocent victim.%

“I should've been the one dying as opposed to him because the parent should never outlive the children,” said Marshall Taylor, Taymar Taylor’s father.

Taylor told Channel 11 News that he hasn't slept since he got the call early Thursday morning that his only son was shot and killed in Brentwood.

“My son don't go to Brentwood. He has no reason to be in Brentwood,” he said. “My son, he was just an innocent bystander."

Taylor told Channel 11 News that he wants to see the alleged shooter get life without parole.

"For somebody to kill my son, that's something that you wouldn't really believe could happen,” he said.

When checking into Plowden’s criminal record, Channel 11 News found that the only serious charge filed against him prior to Wednesday’s shooting was for robbery.

Plowden will face a judge next week in connection with the murder charges.
