Body pulled from Monongahela River in West Homestead

WEST HOMESTEAD, Pa. — The body of a 26-year-old man was found Saturday in the Monongahela River in West Homestead, officials said.

The body of David J. Carter, of Homestead, was reported by someone who spotted it while running on a trail along the river, authorities said.

Pittsburgh River Rescue crews were called and retrieved Carter's body from the water shortly after noon. River Rescue officials turned the body over to Allegheny County homicide investigators and the coroner's office, District Chief Paul Sabol said.

Investigators could not immediately say how long Carter's body was in the river. The cause and manner of death are pending.
