PITTSBURGH — A Brashear High School math teacher accused of being in possession of child pornography and meth has now been suspended without pay, Pittsburgh Public Schools officials said Wednesday.
Authorities arrested Adam Deutsch earlier this month after child porn and meth was allegedly found in his Allison Park home.
According to the criminal complaint, Deutsch admitted that someone on Skype sent him “three images of child pornography that were babies.” He also told investigators he had “50 to 60 images of child pornography and 20 to 30 videos of child pornography on his flash drive and laptop,” the complaint said.
Deutsch’s attorney, Robert Downing, said the criminal complaint doesn’t tell the whole story.
“Well, what the affidavit says and what actually happened, it often isn’t the same thing. We will look at what his statement was,” Downing said.
He said they are still reviewing the evidence.
District Judge Tom Swam told Deutsch on Wednesday that while he’s out on bond, he’s not allowed to have any contact with minors.
While Deutsch was initially placed on paid administrative leave on Sept. 16 when PPS officials became aware of his arrest, the district confirmed Wednesday that he’s now suspended without pay, as the legal process continues.
Deutsch has been an employee within the district for 25 years.
He is facing criminal charges of sexual abuse of children involving dissemination of photographs, videotapes, computer depictions and films; sexual abuse of children involving possession of child pornography; and criminal use of communication facility.
His formal arraignment is scheduled for 11 a.m. Nov.16.
