Butler father facing charges after son, 4, found wandering street

BUTLER, Pa. — A Butler father is facing charges after his 4-year-old son was found wandering a street alone last week, police said.

Authorities said the boy was found walking on a Butler city street in the early morning hours of April 19 without any shoes on.

“A coffee carafe somehow broke on the kitchen floor, and (he) walked over it. (He) had bloody feet,” Butler City Police Deputy Chief David Adam said.

Police said a neighbor found the boy as well as a knife the child was using to try and get into his father’s truck.

“About 20 minutes later, the father appeared from upstairs. He had the odor of intoxicating beverages on him (and) said that he was drinking the night before,” Adam said.

Police charged the boy’s father, identified as Kurt Kline after he admitted to drinking the night before and sleeping in.

“He was somewhat apologetic, but in the light of what happened, it was a pretty serious instance. He was then charged with endangering the welfare of a child,” Adam said.

Child Youth Services was called in to monitor the situation, but since police had not been called to Kline’s house before, the child remains with his father.
