Caught on camera: Car goes airborne from Parkway West, lands in gas station's parking lot

PITTSBURGH — Surveillance video at a gas station captured a car going airborne from the outbound lanes of the Parkway West and landing in the station’s parking lot.

Police said the driver lost control of his vehicle Tuesday on the Parkway West, went airborne – taking out the gas station’s sign – and landed in the back portion of the parking lot of Snyder Brother's Automotive on Campbells Run Road in Collier Township.

“He went airborne and right between the signs out and landed in my lot,” said Donald Snyder, the owner of Snyder Brother's Automotive.

The driver was not hurt, but he is seen in the video exiting his car, looking dazed. No one was in the back parking lot at the time of the crash.

Snyder said Tuesday’s crash was about the eighth time that a driver lost control at the same spot and landed on his property.

“My employees are always out back. Someone is going to get hurt,” he said.

Snyder said he complained to PennDOT about the exit ramp years ago.

“Either they're coming down that lane distracted or they're not aware of how sharp that turn is,” he said.

Channel 11 News contacted PennDOT Thursday with Snyder’s story and were still at his shop when the department called.

“All I can promise is we will definitely go out and take a look at it. If there's something that can be done, we will do it,” Steve Cowan, with PennDOT, told Snyder over the phone.

State police have not released the age or name of the driver or said whether he will be charged.
