Driver critically injured in crash with tractor-trailer on Pennsylvania Turnpike

PLUM BOROUGH, Pa. — A man was critically injured early Saturday morning in crash that shut down westbound lanes of the Pennsylvania Turnpike for several hours, Pennsylvania State Police said.

The crash involving a car and a tractor-trailer was reported just before 5 a.m. in Plum Borough, between exits 57 and 48.

Police said the 30-year-old driver of the car had been stopped along the berm of the Turnpike when he pulled onto the highway, in front of the tractor trailer. The car was rear-ended, sending it along the berm before it rolled onto its roof and blocked both lanes.

The car’s driver, of Munhall, was taken to Forbes Regional Hospital in critical condition, police said. The 50-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer suffered minor injuries.

The Turnpike reopened to traffic shortly after 11 a.m.
