Family dodges bullets when someone opens fire on West Mifflin home

WEST MIFFLIN, Pa. — A West Mifflin family is counting their blessings for escaping uninjured after their home was struck by nearly two dozen bullets.

Officers were called to Glencairn Street at about 1 a.m. Friday.

"I heard pop, pop, pop and I jumped up," homeowner Eric Chedwick said.

His wife, daughter, grandson and daughter's boyfriend were also inside the house at the time the shots were fired.

"Stuff was flying past me and everything, so I yelled to everyone, saying, 'Get down! Get down!'" Chedwick said.

Chedwick's wife told him she heard a knock at the door before the gunshots.

"She saw the kid step back ... and start firing away," he said.

Chedwick said he doesn't know why his home was targeted, and he is just thankful no one was hurt.

"God was with us last night. I'll tell you that much," he said. "Literally, they could have taken every one of our lives in there."

Police said they believe there were two shooters because they found two different bullets at the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
