PITTSBURGH — Five people woke up early Friday to what they thought was rain hitting their Spring Hill home, only to discover the house was on fire.
Firefighters were called at about 1:30 a.m. to Mina Street. The home was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived.
"I thought it was raining out, and I was hearing shattering noises, but it was the wood on the walls falling onto the hardwood floor," Brittany Powers said. “The whole third floor caved into my roof. So, if I was in there, I would have been dead today,”
“We all ran out front and I looked up … there was just smoke pouring out of the bathroom window,” Lucas Savage said.
There were no reported injuries. The home was destroyed and will be torn down Friday morning after a building inspector deemed it unsafe.
Two homes who live on either side of the house were evacuated, and flames damaged the house next door.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, but the family said they believe the fire started in the wall of a second-floor bathroom.
